The first of these type of carpet’s were known to be made between the V and the VI century before Christ, whereas the Oriental rugs began to be produced in Turkey and immediately later in Persia around the XI century after Christ. Today the oriental carpets are recognised as real masterpieces of craftsmanship, woven by hand, knot for knot, they can take many weeks just to complete one small size carpet.
These oriental rugs were originally used for covering the floors of the tents of the Nomads who started first to produce them on rudimentary looms, without any aesthetical items. Subsequently the techniques were sharpened to reach the splendid manufactured articles produced in the last century.
Oriental Area Rug
Wool, cotton or in some rarer cases, silk are the raw materials which are used for producing the oriental area rugs; the nomads primarily used the wool of sheep or camel, that doesn't allow too refined workmanships, however when finished the product has very effective results.
The oriental rugs in cotton are more resistant and they have a better adherence to the floor.
The most fascinating characteristic of the rug is probably their colours, which are declined in a variety of tones, they were originally produced only with natural pigments, then in the 8th century chemical colorations arrived from Europe, but afterwards the oriental carpets lost their prestige.
The main characteristic of the oriental rugs is the knotting, that is rigorously done by hand, with techniques that vary according to the regions and therefore influences the necessary time to produce a rug and its cost.
The oriental area rug ’s production is an extraordinary experience: the sketch is traced on a cardboard and the artisan starts to knot, so that the carpet seems to be born from its hands; once completed, it is washed and put in the sun to dry.
The regions of the oriental rug’s origin are different, and each of them has some particular stylistic characteristics: the most appreciated ones are those coming from Iran, know also as oriental rugs, splendid samples of various dimensions, from the small bed rug to the great carpets for living areas in places such as great houses; also the Turkish carpets, with their colourful fantasies, are very demanding.
The oriental area rugs can be inserted in every area of the house, easy to fit with the style of your furnishings.
