The denomination of Persian carpet comes from Persian Kingdom, at the period of the first manufactured products. More than to be just an artistic heritage of the oriental culture, persian carpets also represent for Iran an economic value.
we can distinguish three main groups:
persian carpet of big dimension called “ Farsi”
persian carpet of medium dimension called “Qālicheh
persian carpet produced by the nomadic population called “kilim”
The Persian carpets are still very demanding ; in view of the important demand, they are now massively produced in factories, however the quality of manufactured products cannot be compared with the one of handcraft products which are unique example.
The Iran Carpet Company, a famous carpet manufacturer which also is ownership of the Iranian state, has started a study on thousand of samples of Persian carpets, to individualize the recurrent graphic motives; the result of this search has been that about twenty sketches can be identified, declined by every artisan in different way.
Persian Rug
The Persian rug is knotted to hand and can take few months, if not a full year, to complete one of these splendid masterpieces; it is unbelievable to see how a carpet takes form on the used looms, how the hands of the artisans quickly knot the wool threads and cotton with regular and constant movements until the complete creation.
